Butterfly World

It was long overdue. A visit to Butterfly World. Located in Coconut Creek, it’s not really a “trip” but a 15-minute drive from central Pompano Beach. As a top attraction in the area and quite unique, it’s always a suggested activity for family and friends. But I confess I hadn’t been for many years.

This year Butterfly World is celebrating 32 years in business and have introduced an anniversary promotion. On select weekends in March and April (confirm the dates on their website) admission is just $10.00 per person plus tax. Normal admission pricing is $32.00 for adults and $22.00 for children 3-11 years old – so it is a huge value. It gave me an even better reasons to re-visit.

My cameras and I arrived early to beat the crowd and hopefully find the butterflies more active in the cool of the morning.

I was not disappointed. Butterflies, butterflies – everywhere. The Butterfly exhibit has two sections – the Paradise Adventure Aviary and the Tropical Rain Forest. Both have a winding pathway through the richly landscaped area. With tropical flora, orchids and greenery with water features – even without the butterflies, it’s a calming zen-like place. The music is smooth and subtle as you slowly wander around with butterflies dancing around you. If you’re an amateur photographer or just a “phone” photographer, this is an excellent place to master close ups of butterflies. In addition to the butterfly gardens, there are aviaries with a variety of birds, a vine maze, a rose garden, garden shop, gift shop and cafe.

From the smiling faces at the ticket desk to the clerks in the gift shop and customer service – everyone couldn’t have been nicer. It’s easy to spend a few hours wandering around with plenty of spots to stop, sit down, smell the roses and enjoy the calm setting and beautiful scenery. It’s memorable experience and highly recommended “thing to do” while here in Pompano Beach.
